Personal Consumption Expenditure by Country, Organized by
Category of Expenditure |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Personal Consumption expenditures available from macroeconomic models are
typically aggregates. They thus are less useful both for analyzing how
changing patterns of purchases by consumers at different stages of ecnomic
development will impact company sales (for consumer goods manufacturers or
service providers) than more detailed estimates of consumption expenditure
by type. Personal Consumption Expenditure is divided into 16 separate
categories of purchases by consumers. Consumption shares vary significantly
primarily due to differences in percapita income among countries in the
group. |
Data Source: United Nations Standard National Accounts.
|
Forecasting Methods: Integrated system based on results
from models for personal consumption expenditure by category, government
spending, intermediate demand by ISIC, and investment demand by ISIC,
commodity prices, manufactured wages, employment by industry group, imports
by and exports by ISIC using an iterative process to insure partial
convergence. |
Applications: Useful for consumer products companies
wishing to project the future size of markets, including markets for special
services. May be useful for measuring potential of the lower-end market for
personal consumption products. Markets where the GINI coefficients show a
highly skewed wealth distribution, but where the size of the mass market is
huge in terms of numbers of potential consumers. Techniques can be
developed to measure the "potential" of these underserved markets using the
full spectrum of data available in this database. |
 |
|
Metric & Classification Groups: Millions of US $s, 1995
US $s, and 1995 US $s at Purchasing Power Parity Prices |
|
Method for Filling Missing Observations: Econometric,
Pooled-cross secitonal time series based on sample of data drawn from
countries of similar size and stage of economic development. Results are
scaled to total personal consumption spending by country as measured using
World Bank data. |
