History & Forecasts - Project Consulting
Two primary sources of data exist that cover multiple countries in a standardized format. Manufactures data is provided by the
UNIDO while service and other broad categories (agriculture and mining) are available for selected countries from the United Nations
Standardized National Accounts databases.
Data for manufacturing sectors is available using UNIDO (United Nations Industrial
Development Organization) ISIC 2 and ISIC 3 datasets. Detail varies with models used to fill in missing data in ISIC
Revision 3 data where necessary and to extend series to a uniform 2009 data prior to developing forecasting models. ISIC
Revision 3 data is available by special order, but longer series and models are maintained in 50 categories of manufacturing in ISIC
2 groups.
Service detail is available from UN SNA data sets. Models are used to fill in missing data in gross output service
categories and for calculating the relationship between gross output and value-added to allow a full set of production data for services
to be developed.
QuERI has developed a unique hybrid production dataset covering 409 NAICS based categories.
By processing through a country specific IO production detail for the 63 industries and estimates of final demand for
investment, consumption, and government with detailed trade data from Comtrade, estimates of production can be estimated
based on the formula: Production = Market Demand - Imports + Exports.
